| 280th Anniversary of George Washington's Birthday Celebrated with 14 Events (2/1/2012) Thousands will join in the revelry for the 280th anniversary of George Washington’s birth in his hometown of Alexandria, Virginia. The city celebrates the General’s birthday throughout the month of February with more than a dozen festive events, including the largest George Washington birthday parade in the country, free admission to historic sites, 18th-century dance classes, popular walking tours, and even a Cherry-themed challenge among local restaurants. |

| Alexandria Announces 6.7 Percent Increase in Visitor Spending (10/3/2011) The Alexandria Convention & Visitors Association announces visitor spending in Alexandria increased 6.7 percent in 2010 to total $657 million, generating city tax revenue of $22.4 million, an increase of 4 percent. Visitors to the city support nearly 6,000 jobs with a payroll of $114 million, up 3 percent from 2009. The number of room nights sold continues to increase – up more than 25,000 in 2010 – on top of the 65,000 room night increase in 2009. |
| Alexandria Hotels Celebrated at ACVA Summer Social (6/20/2011) The Alexandria Convention & Visitors Association celebrated Alexandria’s hotel industry and its contributions to the quality of life in Alexandria at the annual ACVA Summer Social on June 16, 2011. The hotel industry is one of Alexandria’s biggest employers and generates $22 million in tax revenue for the City, including property taxes. |
| ACVA’s Second Annual Alexandria Tourism Marketing Summit (5/19/2011) Alexandria’s tourism community learned how to tap into — and increase — Alexandria's $616 million in annual visitor spending from experts in news media, e-marketing, social media, and hotel sales. Mayor Euille announced that City Council has increased their investment in tourism sales and marketing by almost $400,000 in the fiscal year 2012 budget. |
