Each Sunday, learn, participate, engage, and enjoy with performers and costumed interpreters from noon to 5 p.m. Find performers at Market Square, along King Street between Market Square and the waterfront, and on the waterfront behind the Torpedo Factory.   • Railroad Days

    All aboard! The Potomac Division of the National Model Railroad Association returns with working HO gauge trains and a state-of-the-art digital command system. Parents and little ones will love the hands-on Thomas the Tank Engine area for especially toddlers. Also climbing on board for Railroad Days are Whistle Stop Hobbies to discuss the fun of miniature trains and Operation Lifesaver, a national railroad safety program headquartered in Alexandria. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Free!

    The Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, in conjunction with Heritage Signature Chorale and The Metropolitan Chorus, celebrates two of the greatest crossover artists of our time, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Branford Marsalis. Tickets $20-$80. Sunday matinee youth tickets (ages 8-18) are only $5!

    Celebrate the inaugural seasonand join us for an evening in the year 1809 as Thomas Jefferson transfers the presidency to James Madison. Enjoy a period-inspired banquet and program in the historic ballroom where George Washington celebrated his birthday. 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $100 each for banquet and program. Attend the pre-event sponsor reception for $150 per ticket. Reservations required.

  • Swordsmen’s Rendezvous

    En garde! Experience this unique living history program as you learn a skill all 18th-century gentlemen must know – swordplay! The program includes re-enactment of 18th-century swordplay and a display of 18th-century weapons. This popular family event is suitable for all ages and will include some audience participation as you practice your new-found talents. $5 per person, ages 5 and up. 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; reservations required.

    Join children’s book publisher Usborne at this special event for kids and adults! Usborne will be offering dozens of selections focusing on social studies and other educational areas. Kids can play “Museum Detective” on a scavenger hunt of The Lyceum and enjoy other free activities like storytelling, crafts, and hands-on artifact stations. Stimulate your child’s curiosity at this fun family event. A portion of the book sales will benefit educational programs at The Lyceum. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
