Amtrak, America's only national passenger railroad system, services the City of Alexandria at Union Station, 110 Callahan Drive, located in the city's historic district "Old Town" and next to the King Street Metro. The station is open 6 a.m.-9:30 p.m.; the ticket window is open 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Visitors utilizing Washington, DC's Union Station, 50 Massachusetts Ave. NE, may take Metrorail to Alexandria (Union Station to King Street). Virginia Railway Express (VRE), also leaves from Alexandria's Union Station, 110 Callahan Drive, next to the King Street Metro. Commuter rail service operates Monday-Friday from Northern Virginia to Alexandria, Crystal City and downtown Washington, DC. VRE offers many varieties of tickets, from a single-ride ticket to a monthly ticket. For tickets, call the Commuter Store at 703/413-4287 between 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday.
