Get the info you need to know before bringing a motorcoach to Alexandria. Find insider tips from where to load or unload at major attractions, and places to park overnight.

Motorcoach Loading & Unloading

Active loading and unloading for motorcoaches is allowed only in designated areas throughout the historic district. For your convenience, we have provided a list of approved locations 
closest to nearby attractions.  Please be aware that the Alexandria Police Department will strictly enforce any violations.

  1. The Waterfront and Torpedo Factory Arts Center
    Unit block of King Street (one space), north side, westbound, behind King Street Trolley. Do not load/unload on Union or Cameron streets. 

    The Strand
    100 block. No sidewalk. Do not block the Old Dominion Boat Club Parking Entrance. 200 block. No sidewalk.
  2. Market Square, Historic District Restaurants, Visitors Center, or Walking Tours
    300 block of King Street (five spaces), north side, west- bound between Fairfax and Royal streets.
  3. Gadsby's Tavern Museum and Gadsby's Tavern Restaurant
    100 block of North Royal Street (one space), west side, southbound between Cameron & King streets, directly in front of Gadsby's Tavern Museum & Restaurant.
  4. Christ Church, Shopping & Dining or King Street Trolley
    100 block of N. Washington Street (five spaces), betweem Cameron & King streets, west side,  southbound EXCEPT 4-6pm Monday through Friday.

    100 block of S. Washington Street (one space), between Prince and King streets, east side, northbound EXCEPT for 7-9am Monday through Friday. Do not block the DASH/MetroBus stop. 
     
  5. The Lyceum:
    200 block of S. Washington Street(one space), west side, southbound EXCEPT 4-6pm Monday thru Friday

Motorcoach Parking

Motorcoach parking is permitted in designated locations only. Due to the sensitivity of our historic architecture, idling is not permitted when parked. Engines must be turned off. Parking is permitted at: 

Short-Term Parking
     1.  Waterfront/Robinson Terminal: 500 block of North
          Union Street (four spaces) between Oronocco and
          Pendleton streets, east side, northbound; 3-hour
          parking on a first-come, first-served basis.

      2. North Old Town: 900 block of North St. Aspah Street 
          (two spaces), west side, southbound: 3-hour
          parking on a first-come,first-served basis.

      3. Wheeler Avenue: 3450 Wheeler Ave. (5 spaces in
          ACPS parking lot), available weekends 8am -10pm and
          weekdays 5pm - 10pm, on a first-come, 3-hour parking
          available on a first-served basis through June 15, 
          2009. 

      3. George Washington Masonic Memorial: 101 Callahan
          Dr., Daytime permits are available between 9am and 
          11pm for $10 per day. Permits must be obtained in
          advance from the Alexandria Visitors Center at  
          Ramsay House. Please call Renee Cardone at

          a permit or submit our online application.

Long-Term/Overnight Parking
All motorcoaches staying for a period of 24 hours or more are required to park at the G.W. Masonic Memorial.

    1.  George Washington Masonic Memorial: 101 Callahan
         Dr., Overnight parking permits are available for $35 
         per 24 hour period.  Permits must be obtained in 
         advance from the Alexandria Visitors Center at   
         Ramsay House.Please call Renee Cardone at

         9am to 5pm for more information or to purchase 
         a permit or submit our online application.

Thank you for visiting Alexandria.  We appreciate your business and wish you a pleasant stay. Please obey our rules and regulations, as violations will be strictly enforced.

-  Idling longer than 15 minutes is subject to a $50 fine. Motorcoaches parked in designated spots must turn off their engines.
-  Double parking, stopping so as to obstruct traffic and stopping to load or unload passengers in the traveled portion of any street are prohibited and subject to a $200 fine.
-  Tour and sight-seeing motorcoaches may not use locations other than designated parking spaces and is subject to a $100 fine. 

ABA LogoThe ACVA is proud to announce that starting in May 2008 a portion of the proceeds from the sale of overnight motorcoach parking permits will be donated to the American Bus Association Foundation scholarship fund, which provides financial assistance to students working towards a degree in travel and tourism.

Motorcoaches traveling on the George Washington Parkway are required to obtain a permit. There is no charge for a permit and they may be issued for a one-time usage or on an annual basis. Please contact the National Park Service at 703.289.2516.
