What is your claim to fame?

The Little Theatre of Alexandria (LTA) is the oldest award-winning theatre in the Washington metro area and one of only a few community theaters in the country with its own building and an ambitious seven-show season. We provide a fairly priced high-quality theatre experience right here in Old Town, Alexandria.

What makes you original and unique?

The theatre was founded in 1933. It started as a little play-reading group and blossomed from there into this miracle known as "Live Art." Early productions were held upstairs at Gadsby's Tavern and recreated life in the eighteenth century, right down to the visit of President and Mrs. Washington journeying from their Mount Vernon home. Over the years, audience members included a veritable "Who's Who" of Washington. President Harry S. Truman attended on more than one occasion, and notes say that Lynda Bird Johnson even participated as a serving wench!

What is your secret to success?

LTA is a true mecca of local and regional talent of all ages and ethnicities. Dancers, singers, actors, builders, painters, costumers, musicians, composers, producers, directors, choreographers, and other skilled individuals offer their talents to make this theatre a true original.

What is your proudest achievement?

Providing patrons with top-notch affordable entertainment locally. No need to drive into D.C. to see a musical, a drama, or a comedy. We can provide you with exceptional performances seven times a year. We may be a little theatre but our expectations are gigantic!
