What is your claim to fame?
I'm a second generation clothier with more than 30 years of industry experience. I have a long view of men's fashion and can contextualize today's styles to offer a modern, yet timeless collection.
What makes you original and unique?
At Dash's we truly believe that if your clothes don't move and inspire you and they are not an investment that pays a dividend each and every day - then you are not getting the most out of your wardrobe. We offer the only full-service men's clothing experience in Alexandria. We custom make numerous garments and provide a wide range of complementary wardrobe services.
Who or what inspired you to come to Alexandria?
I've lived in the Greater Washington DC Area all my adult life and I choose to live in Old Town for its charm and style. Living and keeping the store in Old Town has greatly impacted who I am and I take great pride in helping to make Old Town look great.
What is your secret to success?
My father taught me that what matters most is being able to look yourself in the mirror each day and know you did your best. And over the years I've learned that without passion and enthusiasm for what you do, you'll never give it all you've got. Fortunately, I love the high-end fashion industry and I take great pride in the quality of my collection and wardrobe advice. That's why I go to Italy on buying trips to survey the latest trends, procure fine, high-value garments from small manufacturers, and go to great lengths to ensure our clients are continually satisfied with their Dash's experience.
What is your proudest achievement?
I find it most validating to see the effect dressing well has on my clients' energy level and self confidence. I am proudest when a client comes in and tells me "Victor, I get so many compliments on the new suits I got from you". Nothing is more rewarding than knowing that I'm making a difference in the day-to-day lives of the people who shop in my store.
Do you have a favorite Alexandria travel tip you are willing to share?
I recommend travelers slow down and smell the roses. I see many tourists pop in and out of stores without speaking with the owners or asking any questions. I think the richness of Old Town lies in the unique boutiques and store owners. Even if folks don't want to buy, then can still learn a lot about art, clothing, jewelry, and even Old Town just by taking the time to get to know some of the people that make Alexandria what it is.
Best date idea in Alexandria?
I love spring in Alexandria. With the cherry blossoms blooming and the smell of flowering plants in the air, you just can't beat it. But if you can't make it in spring, then fall is great too because there is always so much energy in the air.
Favorite places to go for brunch, happy hour, dinner under the stars, lunch deals, and places to take your dog?
My favorite place for dinner is Landini Brothers because their atmosphere is so warm and their food is always excellent. I always walk my dog down King Street to the Potomac, but I think anywhere in Old Town is a good place to walk your dog.
If you had friends visiting Alexandria what would you tell them to do and see during their visit?
When friends come and visit, I always recommend they go to Mount Vernon. I continually amazed by how well the grounds have been preserved/restored and how the whole estate transports you back to the days of our founding fathers.
